RAY
Lived Experience Speaker - Mental Health Advocate - Safety Consultant & Coach
Helping individuals and organisations in high-pressure industries turn real-life challenges into stronger cultures, better performance, and lasting change.
Ray Elliott
Lived Experience
Ray Elliott’s work is built on honesty, relatability, and lived experience rooted in the real world of construction, industry, and everyday life.
Growing up in the North East of England and entering the construction industry as an apprentice, Ray spent over two decades working across construction, rail, and energy sectors. During this time, he experienced the same pressures many face but rarely speak about — stress, identity challenges, emotional suppression, and the expectation to “just get on with it.”
Alongside this, Ray has lived experience of neurodiversity, including OCD, which shaped the way he thought, processed pressure, and navigated the world — often in silence. This internal battle, combined with the demands of work and life, led to periods of significant mental health struggle, including experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Like many, Ray became skilled at masking what was really going on — appearing capable and composed on the outside while struggling internally. Through self-reflection, personal development, and a commitment to understanding his own behaviours, he began to break these patterns and rebuild a healthier, more intentional way of living.
Now a husband, father, and business owner, Ray uses his lived experience to help others recognise that they are not alone — and that change is possible, no matter how difficult things may feel.
Professional
Impact
Ray works with organisations, schools, and communities to bridge the gap between mental health awareness and real behavioural change. With a unique combination of lived experience and professional expertise — including over 20 years in high-risk industries and qualifications such as the NEBOSH Diploma and Chartered IOSH membership — Ray delivers impactful talks, training, and coaching that resonate deeply with frontline workers, leadership teams, and young people alike
His delivery style is raw, engaging, and relatable, particularly within construction and male-dominated environments, where he is able to break down stigma and open conversations around mental health, neurodiversity, and suicide that are often avoided.
Through his work with NE1’s Mental Health CIC, Ray also supports community initiatives, podcasts, and accessible wellbeing support, helping to create lasting cultural change both inside and outside the workplace.
