The Brief

RWE partnered with Titanium Talks to strengthen behavioural safety awareness across operational teams by helping people better understand the true human consequences behind workplace decisions. Following several serious incidents across sites during 2023/24, the organisation recognised that while policies, systems, and procedures were in place, many individuals had never fully connected emotionally with the potential reality of what can happen when risk perception, routine, or complacency take over.

The focus was not simply on compliance, but on reinforcing the deeper “Why” behind safety. Working alongside existing development programmes such as Thrive and EPIC training, Titanium delivered lived-experience sessions designed to challenge the mindset of “it will never happen to me” and encourage teams to think differently about personal responsibility, behavioural decision-making, and risk under pressure.

By combining real-world experience with behavioural insight, the sessions created a more human and emotionally grounded understanding of safety culture — helping teams recognise that strong safety environments are built proactively, not reactively after an incident has already occurred.

The Impact

The immediate impact of the sessions was both behavioural and emotional. Justin’s lived experience created a powerful level of audience engagement, encouraging individuals to reflect honestly on their own behaviours, habits, and approach to risk in day-to-day operations.

The programme challenged personal risk perception — helping teams cross the critical mental boundary between understanding safety procedurally and truly believing that serious incidents can happen to anyone. By connecting emotional consequence with behavioural accountability, the sessions encouraged individuals to think more consciously about the decisions they make under pressure, particularly in environments where familiarity and routine can often reduce perceived risk.

The result was meaningful reflection, stronger engagement with safety conversations, and a deeper emotional connection to the importance of protecting both themselves and the people around them.

The Legacy

The partnership with RWE highlights an important evolution in behavioural safety culture: awareness alone is not enough without reinforcement, consistency, and ongoing engagement. While the initial sessions created strong emotional impact and behavioural reflection, the long-term opportunity lies in sustaining those changes over time and preventing teams from gradually slipping back into habitual thinking and risk normalisation.

This aligns closely with the philosophy behind the Titanium Method™ — recognising that lasting transformation requires continual reinforcement through insight, action, adoption, measurement, and long-term behavioural change. By revisiting key themes, refreshing behavioural awareness, and reconnecting teams with the emotional reality behind workplace risk, organisations can continue strengthening culture long after the initial session has taken place.

For RWE, the programme reinforced that effective safety culture is not built through one-off interventions alone, but through ongoing conversations, behavioural accountability, and a collective commitment to ensuring that people never have to learn the hardest lessons through experience themselves.
